Conference on Intermodality and Logistics Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities
On October 6th, a conference on INTERMODALITY AND LOGISTICS INFRASTRUCTURE: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES took place in Seville, at the Former Convent of Santa María de los Reyes. The session opened with a lecture by Abelardo Carrillo Jiménez, CEO of Ecorail, titled “Rail in 21st Century Logistics: A Strategic Perspective,” in which he advocated for the future of rail.
Next, Guillermo Vilana Espejo, Technical Director of Red Logística de Andalucía, spoke about the Logistics Network of Andalucía and its infrastructure for intermodality.
Then, Nicolás Martínez, Head of the Business Development Division at the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, delivered a lecture on “Ports: Strategic Hubs for Global Trade.

Among other interventions from different speakers, the Managing Director of the Burgos Transport Center, S.A. and Multimodal Logistics Castilla y León, S.A., Gonzalo Ansótegui, had the opportunity to present the “Logistics Activities Area of Villafría (Burgos)” and introduce the audience to the logistics services and opportunities offered by both the BURGOS TRANSPORT CENTER and the VILLAFRÍA DRY PORT.
The conference was closed by Mrs. Marifrán Carazo, Minister of Development, Infrastructure, and Land Planning, who spoke to the attendees about the future of intermodality and the development of the Transport and Mobility Infrastructure Plan for Andalusia (PITMA 2021-2027).
The Minister highlighted that the Logistics Network of Andalusia will consist of eleven nodes, seven port ones and four inland ones. A €46.4 million investment is planned for the Antequera Dry Port, the Almería logistics area has a planned investment of €40 million, the Algeciras logistics area covers around 300 hectares, the Málaga logistics area spans 62 hectares, and the Sevilla logistics area is divided into two sectors, Negrilla and Majarabique, covering just over 110 hectares.
