First shipment of refrigerated containers from the Dry Port.
We are pleased to announce that on February 28, Friday, our subsidiary Logística Multimodal de Castilla y León launched the first test train with refrigerated goods, heading to the Port of Barcelona, carrying a convoy of reefer containers. This convoy was equipped with two powerful generators that maintained the average temperature of the containers at -18 degrees Celsius, essential to keep the frozen pork meat in optimal conditions.
This first shipment, which has been a complete success, involved sending refrigerated containers with goods from Carnes Selectas de Campofrío to the Port of Barcelona. This milestone is the first step in a refrigerated train corridor, which, in addition to representing significant cost savings, will lead to a considerable reduction in the carbon footprint, contributing to environmental improvement.
Currently, as mentioned by Gonzalo Ansótegui, Director of the Burgos Transport Center, “We are in a provisional first phase that will allow us to handle 20 to 30 containers per week. When we complete the final phase, which we are currently working on, we will be able to store around 60 containers, enabling us to move around 120 containers weekly.
