Meeting at the Port of Bilbao

At the initiative of the Chambers of Commerce of Burgos and Bilbao, an important meeting took place in Bilbao with the aim of relaunching logistical activities within the Central Corridor, particularly focusing on the enhancement of the Madrid-Aranda de Duero-Burgos-Bilbao railway.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Bilbao and was attended by the President of the Port, the Mayor and President of the Burgos Provincial Council, the Regional Minister of the Presidency of the Junta of Castilla y León, and a representation from the CT Burgos Transport Center, alongside the Presidents of the Chamber of Commerce promoters of the event.

The meeting was part of the ongoing dialogue between Bilbao and Burgos, which has been ongoing for years, aiming to optimize the infrastructure connecting both territories and explore the potential for greater collaborations within national and European priorities, through the National Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, particularly in areas led by the Ministry of Transport, concerning transport and mobility.

The discussion also covered the Strategy for Safe, Sustainable, and Connected Mobility 2030, in which the Ministry of Transport (MITMA) is working. This document, Mercancías 30, has been developed in collaboration with ADIF and Ports of the State, and is currently in consultation with the sectors and stakeholders involved, whose suggestions could be incorporated into the final version of the document.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Mayor of Bilbao joined the session, where he was briefed on the matters discussed.

In the coming weeks, another meeting is scheduled, this time with a more technical profile, where concrete actions within logistics infrastructure and their financing options within the National Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan and its specific developments will be discussed.
